Surgical Treatment of a Hammer Toe in Orange County
The toe is straightened and aligned. Recovery is fairly fast. Most patient can return to regular shoes in 2-4 weeks.
The procedure is done under a light anesthesia in a surgical center. We recommend having surgery for painful hammer toes. Cosmetic treatment for hammer toes is not advised. Insurance will cover the surgery for a painful hammer toe.
Swelling reduction after surgery is crucial. Compression bandages as seen below are of great benefit.

– Extension contracture at the Distal Interphalangeal Joint ( closest to the toe nail).

Claw toe

Mallet toe
– Flexion contracture at the Distal Interphalangeal Joint Only.
