How to prevent a post surgical infection
Infections after surgery are more rare than you think.
We frequently will give patients antibiotics before surgery.
There are some patients that are at a higher risk.
If you have had a history of MRSA infection or contamination in the past, you are at a higher risk.
Here in Orange County, we attempt to prevent MRSA infections by treating with prophylactic antibiotics.
Patients should wash their body with a special soap before surgery.
Topical antibiotic ointments are also frequently used.
But what happens when you go home?
Most people are carriers of MRSA
This means that you have it growing in your house.
How to get rid of MRSA from your home.
After a major surgery it is best to stay in 1 room till the incision lines heal. This can take 10-14 days on average.
The reason you want to stay in 1 room, is it is possible to keep that room clean.
